Job Summary/Basic Function:

Wheaton College is Searching for a Temporary Student Success Advisor (SSA) to cover the remaining spring semester. This is a part time position with expected workload being 20-25 hours per week. TheSSAengages students in proactive and individualized academic advising support and manages caseloads of students to positively influence overall student engagement, persistence, and academic success. TheSSAstaff uses data to identify and reach out to vulnerable students, respond to student referrals from faculty and staff, and assist students who seek help. SSAs support student success programming, including peer mentoring, new student orientation, and other success interventions, and serve as contributing members of efforts that advance equity, inclusion and diversity at the college. SSAs serve in other relevant capacities and support various projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree: Master's (Counseling, Student Development, Higher Education, or related field)
Relevant Advising Experience: 1-3 years

• Understanding of the developmental needs of undergraduate college students, and proactive strength-based academic counseling methods used to foster student success.
• General knowledge of college academic policies, procedures, and related laws and regulations that may impact student persistence and success.
• Ability to understand and make use of relevant student information and data to provide individualized advising services, support student success interventions, and implement targeted programming.
• Experience with peer-advising, mentorship and/or student leadership work.
• Ability to work with diverse constituencies and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment of acceptance and belonging.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong project management skills and ability to effectively prioritize and triage challenges.
• Ability to work both independently and on a team.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The starting hourly rate for this position is between $25-$30 depending on experience.
