Job Summary

The ambulatory group in the Department consists of 11 pediatric subspecialty divisions and service lines that practice primarily at Eccles Primary Children's Outpatient Services building ( PCOS), Primary Children's Hospital ( PCH) Riverton, PCH Layton, and some satellite clinics.

The Triage Medical Assistant / EMT provides assistive care to patients. Facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care, supports the professional role of the licensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. Assists with clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. Incumbents will support designated pediatric subspecialties, with opportunities to expand and work closely with multiple disciplines.

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. Regular and punctual attendance is required.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. Responsibilities

Essential Functions
  1. Phone management with patients' parents and other customers, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management.
  2. Work closely with members of the Department of Pediatrics triage team to provide high quality, efficient care to patients and their families.
  3. Communicate directly and indirectly with the healthcare provider to appropriately coordinate patient care.
  4. Discuss patient and family concerns over the phone and/or via the electronic health record.
  5. Provide patient/family with instructions as provided by their physician.
  6. Communicate lab & other test results to families.
  7. Assist with medication refills per division-specific protocol.
  8. Assist providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity, DMV forms, school care plans and medication reauthorization.
  9. Communicate adjustments or changes in treatment plans to families as instructed by physician.
  10. Assist providers with patient and customer communication.
  11. Provide patient education as directed (content reflects specific MA training, guidelines, care process models, protocols).
  12. Report significant changes in patient condition or other pertinent patient information to the care provider.
  13. Actively participate in triage customer service improvement initiatives.
  14. Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives (i.e., CQI, TQM, Lean, 100% participation, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Preferred
Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
