The microbial cell biology laboratory of Dr. Gladys Alexandre, in the Department of Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology needs to fill a full-time research associate to assist the PI in achieving research goals and to support graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory. This position requires proficiency in basic microbiology, molecular biology and/or biochemistry, reliability, responsibility, independence and initiative. Data management, and report preparation will also be required. The research associate will conduct research experiments independently, perform data analysis and interpretation. The ability to evaluate and optimize specific methodology, plan methods and techniques and to determine research feasibility and modifications. The research associate will train undergraduate and graduate students in sterile techniques, microbiology and basic molecular biology as they apply to the research being conducted. The individual will also assist students in developing posters and oral presentations. The research associate will also be the primary manager of the laboratory inventory and will ensure biosafety compliance and equipment inventory.

Requirements for the position include good communication and organization skills, and independent working skills when given clear experimental goals, and a professional work ethic.

The ability and interest in training research students in laboratory techniques and research practices is a plus.

Advanced knowledge in microbiology or cell biology biology, and/or biochemistry is required.

Ability to perform basic microbiology and molecular cloning experiments (PCR, cloning, transformation etc.) and/or Proficiency in protein biochemistry (recombinant protein expression, western blots etc.) and/or live image microscopy.


Qualifications :

Experience in leading research projects in an academic setting is preferred.

Required Experience: A MS degree in one of the following fields Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry

And with at least 7 years’ experience.

Preferred Experience: Ph.D. in a relevant field is required.
