Staff Accountant

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is accepting applications for Staff Accountant. This is a 12-month, full-time staff position reporting to the Director for Business Affairs. This job manages the operating budget of the Bradford campus and daily financial operations of Bradford Educational Foundation. The position demands both a shrewd attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously.


Hiring Range: $45,000 – $50,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Duties:

Accounting

  • Records transaction on general ledger
  • Records deposits, payments, and journal entries
  • Assists in internal and external audits
  • Assists in preparing income statement and balance sheet
  • Reconciles bank statements

Budget

  • Prepares reports
  • Monitors and controls budget

Accounts Payable

  • Processes requisitions for purchasing.
  • Prepares invoices for payment
  • Orders supplies and other duties as assigned

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Master’s degree preferred, but not required. A minimum of one year experience working in business operations, finance, or higher education, but additional experience is highly valued. A comprehensive understanding of fund accounting and ethical accounting principles. Experience effectively maintaining simultaneous projects and meeting tight deadlines. A keen eye for accuracy, and strong sense of discretion are paramount.

Job Summary

Creates, monitors, analyzes, and reconciles budgets and purchasing services. Processes and reconciles financial transactions; prepares disbursement requests and financial reports. Resolves transactions issues.


Essential Functions

- Able to work independently with minimal assistance from supervisor;

- Efficient and focused yet able to successfully work in an environment with frequent interruptions;

- Pleasant and helpful to anyone needing assistance whether it’s in person or on the phone

- Discrete and able to keep confidential any and all of the sensitive matters at the university and in the Office of Business Affairs.

- Calculates figures and checks for accuracy

- Identifies/discusses questions or discrepancies

- Reconciles financial statements and reports

- Recording BEF transactions in a timely manner


Physical Effort

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally life and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
