Job Description Summary:
Able to learn new technologies, able to work on scheduling items with multiple parties, able to learn interact and communicate to solve problems with different people. Perform daily data collection and oversee metabolic core equipment. Assist labs in designing and implementing metabolic outcome measures in the core, provide data analysis, and manage the schedule and billing of the core equipment. Assist in laboratory experiments, perform animal husbandry, dissect tissues from animals and perform analysis including isolating and measuring DNA, RNA and/or proteins (PCR, qPCR, and/or Western analysis) and measure metabolites.

The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.

Job Description:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associate degree in biology, physiology, biochemistry, bio physiology. A combination of education and relevant work experience may substitute for degree on a year-for-year basis.

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience with animal handling.

  • Previous computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, graphics software.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, bio physiology, or closely related field.

    Work Experience:

  • Experience with laboratory animals, protein expression and purification, histology, western blotting, image analysis, immunohistochemistry, genotyping, and animal surgery.

    Previous experience working in a laboratory.

    Skills:

  • Ability to learn new technologies, able to work on scheduling items with multiple parties, able to learn interact and communicate to solve problems with different people.

  • Strong work ethic, reliable, highly organized, affable, effective communication skills, resourceful, and desire to learn.

    JOB DUTIES:

  • Perform daily data collection and oversee metabolic core equipment.

  • Assist labs in designing and implementing metabolic outcome measures in the core, provide data analysis, and manage the schedule and billing of the core equipment.

  • Assist in laboratory experiments, perform animal husbandry, dissect tissues from animals and perform analysis including isolating and measuring DNA, RNA and/or proteins (PCR, qPCR, and/or Western analysis) and measure metabolites.

  • Work in conjunction with the PI and other lab members to maintain day-to-day operation of the laboratory, including cleaning, maintaining laboratory inventory and ordering supplies.

  • Assist in genotyping, maintenance, and phenotypic characterization of the transgenic animals.

  • Other job duties as assigned

    Compensation Statement:

    The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
