Specialized Engineering is growing and has an immediate opening for a Construction Materials Field Technician to join our team!

Successful candidates will:

  • possess outstanding attention to detail
  • exhibit strong oral and written communication skills
  • be required to read, understand, follow directions, and accurately document collected data
  • be able to lift 40-60 lbs.
  • have a valid driver's license and reliable, independent transportation

Prior experience, or background in construction and engineering or inspection work, and ACI / WACEL / NICET / MARTCP / VDOT / WVDOH certifications are a plus.

Primary responsibilities include: conducting tests and field observations for construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, reinforcing steel, foundations and masonry; documenting field inspection reports daily; in addition to performing duties as a quality assurance inspector on construction sites

Physical Requirements

- Stand and walk 8+ hours a day across uneven ground (frequently)

- Drive for extended periods of time

- Drive steel pin 14" into compacted soil (frequently)

- Carry a 50-pound Nuclear Density gauge across uneven ground and into trenches (frequently)

- Manipulate a 250+ pounds wheelbarrow full of concrete across uneven terrain (frequently)

- Perform concrete testing at ground level that requires fine motor skills while bent over (frequently)

- Work outside in all environmental conditions (hot in summer, cold in winter, rain, and wind)

- Perform DCP testing by lifting a 35-pound hammer assembly over the head hundreds of times (infrequent and usually as part of a team)
