This is a 10-month, live-in position. The work schedule is exceedingly fluid and will vary weekly based on need. This work will sometimes include working on the weekends and during the evening.

Position Summary Information

Position Summary

I. Foster growth and student development with the residential community conducive to their academic goals and supportive of the academic mission of the University

a. Provide leadership for maintaining a quiet, safe, and comfortable environment through the application of student development practices

b. Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the residential building's educational and social programming, with focus on the residential community.

c. Advise hall council student group associated with a building, including the monitoring of their budget, planning programs, and meeting the needs of residents

d. Assist the Assistant Director with the advising ofARHSandNRHH

e. Provide direction and support for staff responding to community and roommate concerns

f. Assist with the assigned Living-Learning Communities

g. When requested, collaborate with faculty and staff assigned to theLLCto provide intentional themed programming, support, and opportunities

II. Appropriately respond to student concerns and behaviors

a. Consistently enforce University policies, procedures, rules, and regulations through educational conferences and communication with students as needed

b. Provide appropriate referrals, support, encouragement, and access to necessary University resources

c. Serve as a positive academic and personal role model for students and staff including reasoned decision making and displaying a positive attitude about academic and personal matters

d. Serve as an advocate for the retention of students. This includes maintaining positive relations with academic faculty and personnel, being aware of appropriate academic policies and resources, encouraging students' positive academic behaviors, and providing appropriate referrals

e. Serve as an advocate for the needs of diverse students. This includes maintaining positive relations with staff and faculty who have responsibility for the needs of diverse groups of students, be aware of resources for diverse groups of students and refer appropriately, and encourage students' social justice behaviors

f. Ensure that the University procedures forCAREreferrals are handled assiduously and students are provided the necessary support and that the matter is documented

h. Professionally and effectively respond to students in crisis and ensure protocol and procedures are meticulously followed

i. Participate in evening, weekend, holiday, and University recess “duty” coverage

III. Provide supervision to community/resident assistants

a. Provide developmental supervision through weekly meetings for community/resident assistants

b. Provide direction for community/resident assistant staff in crisis and/or conflict management

c. Provide leadership to staff to initiate, implement, and evaluate developmental and community building programs in support of the academic mission, the Living-Learning Community mission, and assist in the retention of residents

d. Provide individual development and support for staff through mentorship, periodic performance reviews, and, if necessary, employee disciplinary action

e. Assist with the community/resident assistant hiring process

f. Assist with the community/resident assistant training process

g. Assist in the recruitment and retention of a diverse community/resident assistant staff including but not limited to:BIPOC(Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), Queer, and International Students

h. Assist community/resident assistants with connections to offices on campus offering a myriad of supportive services that ensure the benefit of their health, safety, and welfare

IV. Maintain residential hall administrative operations

a. Assist in the development of educational materials and manuals for community/resident assistant staff

b. Mediate roommate, suitemate, and floormate conflicts and make appropriate referrals

c. Recommend to the director room changes for situations which are irreconcilable

d. Assist with room consolidation as directed

e. Develop and maintain a schedule and office hours which are conducive to the residential community needs

f. Work collaboratively with custodial, maintenance, and vendor personnel who routinely work within the residential community

g. Participate in routine building tours to ensure a safe environment and document facility matters

h. Actively engage and articulate ongoing facility management needs

i. Make recommendations to the Director of Housing and residence Life (or Associate director) for facility improvement

j. Review damages documented by community/resident assistants and assess appropriate charges to housing department

k. Monitor work order systems for facility concerns, following up as appropriate and as requested.

l. Coordinate the opening and closing of each residential hall under the direction of the Associate director and Director.

m. Assist the department by managing aspects of health and safety check completion, fire drills, and key auditing

Minimum Qualifications

Earned undergraduate degree by start of position. Passing a criminal background check and a successful interview are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Management, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Education. Experience working in Higher Education. Experience working with a diverse population.
