Manager, Foundation Accounting


Job Summary
The Manager, Foundation Accounting performs senior level, professional financial analysis to support Advancement Finance at FGCU. Functions as a financial and accounting expert, and uses advanced analysis to support department and university goals.

Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinates major finance functions. Formulates and recommends policies and procedures to effectively administer functions.
  • Ensures compliance with Internal Revenue Service regulations and pronouncements along with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) reporting requirements.
  • Coordinates action necessary to correct account balances, resolves funding issues, and maintains proper accounting controls and procedures.
  • Participates in year-end audits and 990 tax returns to ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Makes recommendations related to long-range financial and cash flow analysis. Prepares and analyzes statistical and financial reports, surveys, financial statements, and supporting schedules.
  • Designs, develops and implements special materials for assigned area of budgeting, finance, and accounting.
  • Identifies areas for improvement, considers innovative ideas as solutions, and makes recommendations to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Assists with the design, development, and implementation of special projects. Organizes timelines and drives completion.
  • Serves as a lead and collaborates with department team and across campus to solve problems and achieve results.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field.
  • Four years of professional full-time experience related to the position.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years of professional full-time experience in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field.
  • Experience working in financial operations of a nonprofit or not-for-profit.
  • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge module.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) as they relate to higher education accounting activities.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical computations.
  • Ability to turn creative ideas into workable solutions.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
