Job Description Summary:
To instruct students in accordance with college policies and procedures. Serves as full-time instructing member in Continuing Education Health Professions Institute (HPI). This position is self-funded and based on the continuation of funding.

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teaches a variety of interdisciplinary courses in Health Professions at multiple campus locations and online learning.
  • Participates in ongoing curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Utilizes innovative teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population including, but not limited to, interactive video technology, online format, and other uses of technology in the classroom and lab setting.
  • Plans and organizes lesson plans, research and reference materials, syllabi, and other learning aids.
  • Advises students, attends program meetings and functions, and participates in professional development activities.
  • Assists in coordination of clinical lab equipment and resources.
  • Assists with implementation and completion of accurate book orders.
  • Inventories and requests orders for laboratory supplies.
  • Manages Extern classes, as needed.


Technology
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, interactive video and online format technology, classroom, clinical, lab, or other current learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college and high school levels.
  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.


Knowledge
  • Effective teaching techniques adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
  • Understanding the mission and philosophy of Continuing Education.
  • Subject matter and related and/or relevant topics and issues in the teaching discipline.
  • Sensitive issues relating to a diverse student body.
  • Principles and practices associated with Servant-Leadership.
  • Understands levels and areas within Adult and Secondary Education.
  • Knows general assessment principles and best methods for test preparation.


Skills
  • Effective planning, organizing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to achieve consensus among diverse groups of people and interact with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Being punctual for classes and office hours. Class assignments may include days, evenings, and weekends among multiple campuses or online (distance learning) varying each semester.
  • Maintaining Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) requirements and student confidentiality.


Required Education

Associate Degree of Nursing (AND), or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or relevant healthcare field.

Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, or relevant health related field (preferred).

Other Requirements
  • Current Texas Nursing License, without stipulations as an RN, or current certification as CMA, RMA, MIT, or relevant healthcare field.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for local Austin area travel.


Working Conditions
  • Instruction takes place in classroom, clinical, and lab settings, or online.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate with students.


Safety
  • Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
